Coming up is a coaching call with someone who has a really cool app that allows you to easily create time lapse videos. I unfortunately didn’t record her end of the video so you’ll have to check out lifelapseapp.com to see the app in action. We talk about how to use influencers as affiliates, PR strategies and how to give access to your app before it’s actually approved.
Using Influencers as Affiliates
Sarah wanted her influencers to be able to make money when they share the content to their followers so she was inquiring about affiliate links. There is a site called Geni.us which can help you earn commissions once people click on it as this is an example of an affiliate link. For tracking, you will need something like Branch or AppsFlyer. I have shared to her that influencers usually get paid upfront so not many may take her up on this so she has to be creative in coming up with offers, such as paying an upfront fee then making the affiliate links as an extra.
If you are going after a certain demographic, figure out 5 or 6 big publications that you want to be on and offer them the exclusive. Make it as personal as possible as this tends to speak to the heart versus sending out lots of letters and hope for the best. This is how we have been able to get into VentureBeat, TechCrunch, Mashable and the bigger sites.
Accessing your App Before It’s Live
If you want to demo your app, you don’t have to make it live in the App Store. Whoever is doing your video or your photo shoot, get their iPhone ID and just give them the link and they will now have access to your app even without it going live. Another option is making your app version .9, submit it to Apple, get it approved, but set a future-date launch as not to make it live. It will get processed but it will not be available in the App Store so what you need to do is to generate promo codes for people to download the app. You can also use a site called Redeem-Now.com where you can generate links which you can send to people.
